Storage chokes are important parts in switch mode power supplies for storing magnetic energy. The coil arrangement, solid wire, flat wire or litz wire versions and the core material parameters are used for determining optimum choke characteristics. The choice of magnetic core materials depends to a great extent on the combined current shape. Therefore at low ripple current and low frequency, low powder or metal alloys are used. At a higher frequency and a high ripple current, bodies with ferrite and low-loss windings are applied.
